two poems from 1999

Echoes
If love lights a candle in the dark,
A whisper tells me all I see
Is perfect and just for you and me.
Another day, a little darker
I see you smiling, only softer.

Midnight
Darkness unfolds and sighs across the water

coldness clouds the walkways, rooftops and windowpanes
Mist moves down the hill

from the upper floors the water stretches crystallic
Metallic sounds of kitchens running
silver stars without names sit upside down

twinkling on the waves at shore
the only light left from the heat in the sky
brighter than horizons of coal
holding the silence until dawn.
