letting go

Bitterness is waiting in the corner
For a time to plant the seed of death.
Do I say a feeble goodbye
With hugs that pour out a hundred words?
Can I untangle myself when love
Runs deeper than the scars left by old quarrels?

If only it wasn’t better to have loved and lost
If only you weren’t close enough to touch
I leave with tears in my hands
Yet excitement swells on the horizon

You talk of missed opportunity and forgotten chances
You remind me of what could have been:
I dance something I don’t know the pattern of
And sunshine paints wings on this butterfly
Give me a key that I might find the secrets
Hidden only for me.
